Entry requirements

Details of the academic and English language requirements for your course are on our  course finder. We help many students from Libya to improve their qualifications to meet entry requirements.

Academic equivalencies

Undergraduate

We require a Secondary Education Certificate plus an acceptable international foundation year or equivalent.

Postgraduate

We require a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or medicine (from a university) OR a master’s degree (equivalent to a British Postgraduate Diploma standard) in any subject from a Libyan university.

Bachelor’s degree courses offered at universities are four to six years in duration. The master’s degree (MA or MSc) is awarded after two years of study beyond the first degree.

There are two main forms of grading system used in Libya. Firstly, a percentage system is used, although there may be slight variations depending on the institution. Secondly, a grade point system (GPS) is used, with 4.0 as the highest mark and 1.0 as the minimum pass-mark at the undergraduate level. The scale is as follows:

Libyan degree classification (%)
Libyan degree classification (GPS) Alternative name
English translation or equivalent
85–100 per cent 4.00 Excellent 1st
75–84 per cent 3.00–3.99 Very good 2:1
65–74 per cent 2.00–2.99 Good 2:2

English language requirements

We will not accept a Libyan English language qualification as meeting our minimum English language proficiency requirements.  Find out more about our English language requirements.

Improve your academic and English language ability

If you don't have the correct grades or qualifications to meet our entry requirements, we can help you improve them. Find out more about our pre-sessional English courses.

Degree preparation courses at the International College
